Journey to John Day Fossil Beds National Monument

Every road trip includes a shoe tree somewhere along the way. This shoe tree is near the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

After checking to see if Dorothy's shoes from Oz are there (and they were not), it's a bit easier to leave the tree and go back to the road....

Along the way, there are some pretty fantastic formations with beautiful water-paint like hues.

There were even some scenes with a bright pink band of color.

Upon closer scrutiny, the bright pinks were cherry trees in bloom....

The Painted Hills are nearby, which is also an exquisite marvel for the eye to see, too.
