Thomas Jefferson was a Foodie!

There has been lots of chatter about the intentions behind many of America's Founding Fathers, but one of the most interesting tales is how Thomas Jefferson (or TJ for short) was a real honest to goodness FOODIE!

Because of TJ's palate, his curious nature, and the desire for America to become more civil, we can thank him for bringing some mighty fine recipes and dishes to the states. Foods like french fries, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, ice cream, and creme brulee are dishes TJ brought from France. 

For me, this opens up a completely new respect for this founding father. 

If you like history, or biographies, or even food, you will probably enjoy "Thomas Jefferson's Creme Brulee" by Thomas Craughwel. This is a delightful historical account of what TJ was up to when he went to France and how this adventure allowed those seeds for fine dining to grow.
