Go Tour Oakland's Mountain View Cemetery

Did you know that one of the most historic cemeteries is located in Oakland, CA?  Mountain View Cemetery is so historic they even offer three hour docent-led tours two Saturdays a month!  That in itself is amazing.

One of the tours focus is on the broader look at the cemetery, while the other Saturday tour in the month will feature more specialized topics, such as a look at the fascinating people who now call this cemetery their home.  This includes people such as
  • Samuel Merrit
  • James Folger
  • Domingo Ghradelli
  • Charles Crocker
  • Julia Morgan
  • Bernard Maybe
  • Josiah Stanford
The tours are free and year-round.  The tours are about every other Saturday at 10 a.m. and last about three hours.

Since the holidays are right around the corner, you may want to check out one of the up-coming tours, the circle of light tour in December. It is pretty spectacular.

If you are a history buff, check out the Oakland Blog, titled “Lives of the Dead.” This blog is devoted to sharing the stories of the inhabitants at the Oakland Mountain View Cemetery.  Pretty interesting.
