5 Words Babies Use

There are 5 words that all newborn babies use to communicate what they want. Who knew?

Here is a video about a woman, Priscilla Dunstan, who has a photographic memory for sound, and with this ability was able to pick out different patterns and sounds when babies cry and thus was able to translate those common sounds into meaning.  She then evaluated over a thousand babies and determined that all newborns use the same sounds.

Here are these universal sounds for newborn communication:

  • NEH = hunger
  • OWH = sleepy
  • HEH = discomfort
  • EAIR = lower gas
  • EH = burp me

Watch the video and listen to the examples.  After listening a few times to the different sounds, you can start to pick out the differences in these messages.

Pretty interesting.
