Anesthesia

An anesthesiologist shared the history of anesthesia in the USA.

"It began with ether and nitrous oxide parties in the 1840’s," he said.

“Parties would include laughing gas (nitrous oxide) or ether as a party drug to induce a temporary high. In addition to the laughing and giggling, it was noticed that the person would not feel pain if too much was used. At other times, some would pass out and become temporarily unconscious, waking up later with no memory at all of their episode.

These drugs were then introduced into some medicine procedures in the mid 1840’s as a means of temporarily blocking pain and allowing a person to be unconscious during painful procedures".

I had no idea anesthesia had its beginning roots as being the entertainment source or a party favor.
