JQ's Ironman in Arizona

The Ironman race includes swimming 2.4 miles, then biking 112 miles, followed by running a marathon of 26.2 miles. The race begins at 7:00 am and all athletes need to finish the race by midnight and they must cross the finish line on their own. The Arizona 2008 race was held on Nov. 23 in Tempe. Here is an aerial view of the 2100 athletes getting into Tempe town lake to swim the 2.4 miles.
Here is a photo of JQ at the end of the swim. He was able to swim the 2.4 miles in 1 hour and 12 minutes.

After completing the swim, you strip off your wet suit, flex your muscles a bit, and then......
hop on your bike to ride the 112 miles. JQ completed the bike portion of the race in 5 hours and 39 minutes. Here is a photo of him biking (and also appears to be displaying a new tattoo).

After completing the 5+ hours of biking, he parked his bike and then started his run. He was able to complete the 26.2 miles of running in 4 hours and 13 minutes.

And to the finish line with a total combined time of 11 hours and 21 minutes, right behind another racer:

JQ reduced his time by 2 hours. Here is a photo of his prior Ironman race 2 years ago.

Well done, kiddo! We are VERY proud of you!

WOW! Jake is pretty much amazing. I have no idea how he runs a marathon after a day of swimming and biking. Congrats Jake!
