My Stroke of Insight

The book, "My Stroke of Insight" by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, is about a young PhD who was an expert on the brain anatomy had a stroke at the age of 37. She was able to observe and remember the effects of each progressive phase of the stroke process and how this affected her thoughts, the way she processed information, and how she dealt with each phase of the situation.

Dr. Taylor also describes the healing process and what her mind relayed to her during this initial healing stage. She also shares her recovery (which took over 10 years) and the details she went through to retrain her brain and those neurons to get her mind back to working how it did prior to her stroke.

She also shares the need for gentleness and humanness in the healing process and describes those who are energy givers and those who are energy drainers. She also discussed how she felt connected to all of life and the life force during the stroke and felt such a sense of bliss she had to consciously choose to "return" to care for her body. This is an absolutely fascinating book if you are interested in healing or stories of the human spirit.
